smoothieSo last night as I was scrolling through Pinterest, I decided I wanted to start maybe drinking my breakfast! If you are like me, mornings are as hectic as they come. From the moment my feet hit the floor it’s full speed ahead of rushing through the routines of getting the kids dressed, making lunches, breakfast on the table or heaven forbid in the car and out the door to make all the traffic lights (I do have those timed just right) all so we can arrive at school on time!

But that left me without eating anything.  So after I dropped the girls off to school today, Aliyah and I hit the grocery store.  I grab some spinach, blueberries, Almond/Coconut milk, and well I had bananas at home already.

I do have a Magic Bullet that worked fine but a blender would work just as well, I think.  I tossed in a handful of spinach, a 1/2 cup of blueberries, half of a banana, and one cup of Almond/Coconut milk, and ice.
Blended that up and the taste test:   delicious!!!!
I was pretty surprised that it was so good.  The banana definitely helped with the sweetness and hey, I’ve just had a delicious serving of vitamins.  Win, win!
Now my options are limitless–what’s your favorite combination of fruits and veggies?

Be encouraged

aliyah16A couple weeks ago we had a scare with Aliyah again. The girls have been sick on and off with the usual cold of the season. Aliyah was completely fine the night before but woke up alittle crankier and was not her happy self. We were all off of school and work that day due to the MLK holiday. I was finishing up making breakfast, when Dan says to me something I didn’t think I would ever hear again, “babe her stomach is retracting!” I calmly walked over to see our little girl sucking in breath and you only knew she was struggling because her abdomen was retracting rapidly and hard. I think I went numb inside but we both knew to call the doctor immediately. Thankfully the doctor’s office was open and I quickly got dressed to head in to the office–not knowing what the outcome would be! See just last year, one week to date, Aliyah was hospitalized with the same symptoms and was diagnosed with RSV at 4 months of age. Facing the Storm through Rest
That was a very difficult time for our family and as I buckled her into the car seat those memories stricken with fear and worry soon flooded my mind.  See in the last few weeks here, Dan and I have been really stretching in our faith, we have been going through a time of facing the storms that life just throws at you from nowhere.  So to have this come at us out of nowhere again felt a bit like the last straw.  But as a parent, do you ever get those moments of where you throw your hands in the air and give up or say I can’t take this anymore? Not really.
Aliyah did well on the nebulizer treatment that lasted one week and she is back to her happy, friendly, want to be just like my big sissies-self.  We didn’t have to go to the hospital and honestly coming home from the doctor’s that day, you would never know she wasn’t feeling well.
Going through this brief battle with Aliyah the lesson I learned is yes things can come at you full speed ahead out of nowhere, you might even be blind sighted from how fast things can change but how do you react in a crisis?  Do you give up? Do you assume the worse results? Do you look at it as a punishment? Do you assume well this is how it’s going to be?
See I really didn’t know what to post as a blog today.  But I feel in my heart I wanted to share with my readers whatever crisis you may be facing, YOU will get through it.  I know many of my readers may not believe in Christ.  But I’m telling you when life hits you down hard and fast–try Him–what do you have to lose?  Life is no joke at times, it can really leave you stressed, worked up, angry, bitter, reaching for the next best thing.  But from my heart, I encourage you just try Christ.  It’s not as difficult as you may think.  You will never be alone nor will you ever feel unloved.

Be encouraged today in whatever you maybe facing…God knows and He hears and answers prayers!

Be You!

This quote speaks so much to me! See I’m totally the kind of person who checks on you if you’re having a bad day, remembers small details about whatever you are going through, or find out what inspires you and tries to encourage that in you. But I’m also that person who gets disappointed when those same actions aren’t reciprocated. I remember my mom telling me back in high school, “don’t expect people to treat you the same way you treat them.” Well I’m far from high school now and I have to admit I still kinda want people to do that for me. Is it naive of me to expect people to care enough to simply say, how are you–with no strings attached?

I find that as life goes on, I was tempted to change who I was because of other people’s behavior. How was that working out for me? Well, I wasn’t being “me.” I wasn’t staying true to who I was and I in turn was becoming those same people that don’t necessarily take time for others. But it was a choice I was making to change me. I knew when I was keeping my distance or retreating from my “true” self. It didn’t make me happy. I was missing a big part of who I was and what I was created to be. Sure I wanted to convince myself, it doesn’t matter, they don’t ask about my life so why ask about theirs, why go the extra mile, why do I keep trying?  But I eventually learned that this was just part of what made me who I am. I definitely can’t expect people to be who I would like them to be but I most certainly can expect me to continue being my true self–let’s face it, no one else can do you like you do you!

So with all that being said–

How are you today? 💕

My One Word!

As I drove the girls to school this morning, I heard on the radio about a program called, My One Word. Have you heard of it?  This experiment wipes away the long list of resolutions that most of us give up on sooner or later and  encourages us to simplify those big plans by narrowing it down to just One Word. I think I can stick to something like this, how about you? In choosing a word, keep in mind your character–who do you want to be, and a vision for your future–what do you want that to be filled with?

So my word is:  Peaceful! This year I choose to work on having peaceful relationships, keeping the peace, and being filled with His perfect peace even if things do not work out exactly as planned. To me, having peace in Christ, will only lead me to more joy and happiness in life as well!

What’s your word? Leave me a comment on your word and why you chose it–lets see how just one word can make a difference as we focus and don’t forget pray on it. 💕
