This is so true for Daniel and I, especially as we approach our 2 year mark of stepping out of the boat–our comfort zone! God has seen us through SO much in the past 2 years and we stand so much stronger in Him! We both can attest to “He never leaves you and never forsakes you.” There is always a Bigger Plan–trust Him!

Shining For Him

Fourth grade is no joke! This can be a time where most boys and girls are coming into their own personality, making their own choices on who they call friend, being tested academically, emotionally and spiritually day in and day out!

This season has even tested me as a mom in building a relationship with my 10 year old daughter! Do I just want to tell her how to handle a situation or do I listen to the 4th grade drama and equip her for the very similar  types of drama that unfortunately show up later on in life too? Ofcourse, my natural mama bear surfaces and I want to protect her heart and tell her exactly what to do and how to do it! But will that help her in the future when I’m not around?

After listening to countless stories this school year, my advice always seemed to come back to one statement, “Alyssa let your light shine and keep being who you are in Christ.”

At school Alyssa was presented with student of the month and she received the “Peace Keeper” award. They describe a peace keeper to not only be someone who is helpful to their teachers and friends; or one that chooses to keep peace and above the drama; but one who also lets their light shine in all circumstances

Our sweet girl chose to keep peace and kept being who she is! A lesson that I know personally is never easy to do at any age!

Are you choosing to let your light shine today? Are you keeping peace in whatever situation you may be facing?  “Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:18

Need Peace?

This morning my husband posted this encouraging verse below and I just wanted to share it with you guys. I know everytime we turn on the television these days it is worrisome, sad and uncertainty rushes through our minds to see what the world around us is becoming but we can have peace.
Find your peace not in the uncertainty of this world but in the One who offers true peace!

Had to share this amazing heart-shaped cloud I saw in the sky, a reminder of God’s promise to us especially in these uncertain times..”Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 24:27)

Love One Another

In a world filled with pain, hurt and uncertainty– love can be the first step towards healing of a dry and thirsty soul.

Loss Is Never Easy

IMG_1724Dear Friends,
I come to you with a saddened heart, with a heavy heart, but yet a comforted heart.  Yesterday I found out my mom’s dad, my 90 year old grandpa passed away. No matter how old they are, it’s still a process isn’t it?  You still don’t want to admit their age, or the inevitable one day, you fight just as hard for them when they are in the hospital with ever bit of hope that they make it out this time, you cringe every holiday season that passes  hoping this isn’t the last they are with us, but then the day comes when all those thoughts become reality and you believed in your mind that “I will be ready when the time comes” yet it hits you.

He was quite a character–he loved the Lord, he was wise, he was a very hard worker, (after all he had 7 daughters and one son) he was a fighter and he was a jokester!  He had a way about him where he could find humor in just about anything–you couldn’t be around him for five minutes without laughing about something he observed or something he said.

Last night before drifting off to sleep, I thought, “he’s walking on streets paved in gold; he’s with my other grandparents; is he teasing Jesus about something or the other; I’m pretty sure he is teasing my grandma (his wife) and I bet he’s eating all sorts of desserts and showing her how he can finally eat it all without her worrying!”
But while my heart is sad and while I feel the grief for my mom, aunts and uncle I am comforted in knowing that he is in a better place, he is no longer in pain, he is no longer suffering, he is happy and healthy and completely whole–he is with the King of Kings!
I leave you with grandpa’s favorite verse which is found in John 14:1-2, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Happy Good Friday

Happy Good Friday Everyone,

What greater love than to lay down your life for someone?

Jesus did!!

He came so that we ALL can live a life free of any sorrow, pain, sickness–the list goes on!

Do you accept His gift?

Time For a Checkup (One Word)

Back in January I challenged myself and my readers to come up with One Word to work on this year.  The idea was instead of having a “to do” list of resolutions, we would focus in on One WordMy word was peaceful.
So  how am I doing with keeping in peace, having peaceful relationships, and being filled in His perfect peace when things don’t work out exactly as planned?  Let’s just say, I sure am glad we have nine more months in this year!
The very day I posted and declared to you that my word was peace, I remember cooking enchiladas for dinner.  It was super easy to do but in my midst of balancing cooking, homework, supervising bath time, answering questions thrown at me left and right–I set the glass dish on a very hot stove and before long–glass shattered–sauce spattered and tears welled up in my eyes due to the overwhelming glob of red sauce and cheese everywhere!  The girls were already complaining of being hungry, hubby was on his way home and I was on top of everything until our dinner collapsed.  I thought, “peace!” Here was my first chance at demonstrating peace. Dan walks in from work and his comment, “well if you wanted Chinese for dinner, just say so!”  We both laughed but choosing peace even though in a silly situation turned into a fun evening instead of me being stressed out.
In the last three months, I have been challenged to my breaking point.  There is no coincidence why my word is PEACE!  I have realized that choosing to have peace, means choosing to continue to trust  in God, to continue to depend on Him when all things don’t seem to make sense and to continue to be true to who He created me to be.(Be You) I have gone through betrayal, mistrust, hurt, anger, frustration but when my focus is on PEACE–I have been able to forgive, love, trust, enjoy the season I am in and show compassion to those that have wronged me.
I am a work in progress for sure and everyday it is a choice to make.  The verse I cling to is found in John 14:27–Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

So how is your One Word working out for you?  Is it harder than you thought?  Is it helping you in other areas of your life? Is it rubbing off on your family and/or friends?  Are you still honestly working on it?

Leave me a comment and let me know how you are doing?  Nine more months and we will be that much closer to our One Word!  As always, Be blessed!

My One Word!

As I drove the girls to school this morning, I heard on the radio about a program called, My One Word. Have you heard of it?  This experiment wipes away the long list of resolutions that most of us give up on sooner or later and  encourages us to simplify those big plans by narrowing it down to just One Word. I think I can stick to something like this, how about you? In choosing a word, keep in mind your character–who do you want to be, and a vision for your future–what do you want that to be filled with?

So my word is:  Peaceful! This year I choose to work on having peaceful relationships, keeping the peace, and being filled with His perfect peace even if things do not work out exactly as planned. To me, having peace in Christ, will only lead me to more joy and happiness in life as well!

What’s your word? Leave me a comment on your word and why you chose it–lets see how just one word can make a difference as we focus and don’t forget pray on it. 💕
